Malas, "Power Beads," or Prayer Beads

Prayer is a time to protect the mind from the poisons of the world; anger, hatred (aversion), jealousy, grasping(attachment) ignorance(delusion), pride and greed. When you are ready to allow the noisy world to fade into the background of your mind...pick up your Mala and fill your mind with blessedness through Recitation of Sacred Mantra. When entering a state of prayer, one can awaken innate goodness, kindness, serenity, all virtue, joy, and a peaceful heart.

Buddhists and Hindus use the Mala to count a given round of mantra or prayers in Sanskrit or Tibetan, typically in cycles of 108. Many other traditions, i.e., Christian and Muslims also use prayer beads for similar reasons, although the number of beads is different.. The Catholic Rosary and Muslim prayer beads have lesser numbers of beads on the strands because each tradition associates the purpose of beads unique to their own beliefs.
