The Tibetan Bell symbolizes the feminine principle, the wisdom of emptiness. The Dorje or Vajra, symbolizes the masculine principle or that of the mind which is compassion. Compassion is expressed through skillful means. The union of these two principles brings about enlightened mind.
The use of Tibetan bells will clear the mind from clouds of negative thought, creating calmness causing relaxation and a peaceful feeling. Sacred sound has the unique ability to heal the divisions within you, while clearing away mental chatter.
Both Tibetan bells and Dorje, and Tingsha bells are easy to use. The Tibetan Dorje, is held gently in a vertical position in the right hand, close to the heart, while the Tibetan Bell is held in the left hand.
The Tingsha Bells are played by striking one against the other one, twice or three time, then pause for 20-30 seconds while they resonate. You can do this to open a meditation, yoga or study session. Then perform the same exercise when you close the sessions.
Tibetan Bells and Tingshas are often played for deep relaxation, to quiet the nerves and for stress management. Some people use them to open and close meetings, teachings, in classrooms with children or retreats since the sense of peace they create is profound.
