Malas, taken from the Sanskrit:माला mala or MA-LA, called a Buddhist mala or prayer beads, Japa mala. Sometimes the public calls a mala "Power Beads".
All of our prayer beads are placed in the shrine room where prayers, mantra and meditation are performed daily. This magnetises the malas.
Malas are used for meditation and prayer to protect the mind from the poisons of karmically harmful states of mind: anger, hatred (aversion), jealousy, grasping (attachment), ignorance (delusion), pride and greed.
Malas usually made from 108-111 beads, plus a guru bead. A mala is used for counting recitations while chanting, or mentally repeating a sacred phrase, aka, mantra for a Deity(names of the Divine or Buddhic levels of mind). If recited correctly, mantra can awaken wisdom, loving kindness and compassion.
