Welcome to Four Gates Tingsha Bells, as well as the Bell and Dorje, aka, Vajra, Department
Relaxing, peaceful sacred sound is one of the best methods to create peace within your mind, emotions and true nature. Sacred sound has the unique ability to heal the divisions within you, while clearing away mental chatter.
Both Tibetan bells and Dorje, and Tingsha bells are easy to use. The Tibetan Dorje, is held gently in a vertical position in the right hand, close to the heart, while the Tibetan Bell is held in the left hand. The bells is rung in the same way you would any bells, but gently, and repeatedly for 10-15 seconds. You use this at regular intervals during a Tibetan Buddhist sadhana, meditation practice or puja(spiritual practice period).
The Tingsha Bells are played by striking one against the other one, twice or three time, then pause for 20-30 seconds while they resonate. You can do this to open a meditation, yoga or study session. Then perform the same exercise when you close the sessions.
The Dorje(Tibetan) or Vajra(Sanskrit) is a symbol of the indestructible nature of mind, one's essential self, our true nature. The bell and dorje together are symbols of our innter compassion and wisdom united. Together they express the enlightened aspects of our true nature.
Tibetan Bells and Tingshas are often played for deep relaxation, to quiet the nerves and for stress management. Some people use them to open and close meetings, teachings, in classrooms with children or retreats since the sense of peace they create is profound.
