Tibetan Chants and Mantra

Most all of these chants are performed in the native languages of Sanskrit or Tibetan, and some in other Asian languages, such as Chinese. We have a language department for you to learn these beautiful languages if you wish. There is also a series called, Mantra: Sacred Words of Power which we highly recommend if you wish to learn how to chant and what some of the phases mean.

It is not necessary to know the meaning of a sacred phase to benefit from the chant, but for those who wish to study further we offer these educational programs for your increased benefit and enjoyment.

The Heart Sutra (AKA Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra) is one of the most universal Buddhist chants. It is the most concise Buddhist scripture which summarizes the Buddha's teaching on the nature of existence, emptiness(or our true nature beyond ego) and the basis for compassion. It is a classic chant recited among all Buddhists.

This is powerful chant recited in traditional Sanskrit is very uplifting, especially when played/chanted around the full moon, new moon and for auspicious days. It is both soothing and uplifting to listen to, calming the mind and heart. There are two versions of similar length recorded live in Tharig Monastery. According to Guru Rinpoche, the more beautifully performed chant is creates greater merit or positive karmic benefits when listening or reciting the chant. CD, $17.95

Mantra of Joy: White Tara longevity and health mantra, " Om Tare Tutare Ture Soha." This is a series of OM Tara mantra with five sets of melodies based on the Tibetan Buddhist Tara mantra. Mother of Compassion by Lisa Thiel is a series of chants and praises to Kuan Yin, AKA Tara in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. This is a best selling CD, with devotional, uplifting and melodic qualities. The tracks include: Kuan Yin Mantra I, Mother of Compassion, Flames of Mercy, Kuan Yin Mantra II, Fire of Illumination and closes with Fire of the Dragon. The Yogi's Song, CD. This selection by H.E. Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche is a collection of twenty-six mantra, Tibetan prayers, songs of realization, and folksongs sung by Chagdud Rinpoche and recorded in numerous settings during the 1980s and 1990s. The Yogi's song is a 70-minute CD includes A Spontaneous Song of Genuine Being by Kyabje Dudjom Rinpoche, selections from the The Hundred Thousand Songs of Milarepa and the epic of Gesar, the mantra of Amitabha, Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig), Guru Rinpoche, Jetsun and Red Tara, Vajra Guru Mantra and many other Tibetan folksongs. H. E. Chagdud (Iron Knot) Tulku is known for his beautiful and powerful voice. This series of selections were assembled after his parinirvana in Nov. 2002. New -Vajrakilaya Chant sung by His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche. The was recorded high in the Arizona mountains while on retreat in 2002. Highly venerated lama Garchen Rinpoche's wonderful, eloquent and solitary voice of an as spectacular as a thunderous river and yet as kind as a loving father. He is an accomplished master of the practice.

The Vajrakilya chant is know for cutting through negativity, obstacles and purifying conditions. It is one of the most revered chants because of the powerful results. Voice of Tibet: A Treasury of Sacred Mantras and Prayers gathered from the great masters of Tibet and sung by by Chagdud Tulku Rinpoche. In this CD His Eminence Chagdud Tulku, also known as, "Lord of the Dance", uses his rich sounding solitary voice to chant many of Tibet’s favorite mantras. It is not an overwhelming, but rather a gently powerful experience.

Om Mani Padme Hum (Six Syllable Mantra/Prayer) by Buedi Siebert is a collection of the Six Syllable mantra, a well known Buddhist prayer set to moving instrumentals. The prayers are traditional, but the renditions are from the devotion and deep respect within the artist's own heart. There are four versions of the Om Mani Prayer/chant, some short and others the traditional longer version. He has also included the Lotus Call or Vajra Guru Mantra and two others. Among the renditions are both chanted and selections with instruments accompanying.

This is the most revered chant or mantra in all of Tibetan Buddhism because it is intimately connected to Chenrezig, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. Both H.H. The Dalai Lama and H.H. The 17th Karmapa are considered manifestations of the Great Compassionate One. You see expressions of this throughout all of Asia, including China, Tibet, India and other countries. Whether on the lips of practitioners, on temples, prayer flags or prayer wheels, His presence is always in expression. Every Buddhist in the eastern traditions knows this chant of invocation.
