Malas, taken from the Sanskrit:माला; mālā or MA-LA, called a Buddhist mala or prayer beads, Japa mala. Sometimes the public calls a mala "Power Beads". Malas are used for meditation and prayer to protect the mind from the poisons of karmically harmful states of mind: anger, hatred (aversion), jealousy, grasping (attachment), ignorance (delusion), pride and greed. Malas usually made from 108-111 beads, plus a guru bead. A mala is used for counting recitations while chanting, or mentally repeating a sacred phrase, aka, mantra for a Deity(names of the Divine or Buddhic levels of mind). If recited correctly, mantra can awaken wisdom, loving kindness and compassion.
Buddhists and Hindus use the Mala to count a given round of mantra or prayers in Sanskirt or Tibetan, typically in cycles of 108. Other traditions, Christians and Muslims use prayer beads, but with fewer beads. Protect you investment, be sure to select a Mala Bag .
